Skruf 6" Engraved Swedish Vase, Gothic Window with Birds, Edenfalk 1950's Design

Sorry, this item has sold.

Bengt Edenfalk created a beautiful scene of birds and branches, framed by the delicate arch of a Gothic window, on this handmade Swedish lead crystal vase.

This hand blown crystal was engraved by spinning copper wheels, pressing a slurry of grit, which cut into the surface. This a difficult technique to learn, but it's one that allows the engraver to execute varied depths and finishes to reproduce the artist's drawing. The shape of the vase is one of the most readily recognized from Skruf. Edenfalk designed it, and others, with flat surfaces on which decorative motifs could be more easily engraved.

The vase is 4" x 2" x 6" and it weighs 2 pounds. It is signed with the company name, Skruf, and it is in very good condition. The Skruf Glassworks was founded in 1897 and is still operating today. Bengt Edenfalk was the artistic director at Skruf from 1952 - 1978.
