This is a remarkable piece of art glass, made in Sweden by renowned glass artist, Lars Hellsten, for the Orrefors Glassworks. On the cover of a special holiday catalog, it was featured as a premium item in the "Orrefors Collection" for the 1989/1990 gift-giving season. The spherical vase has thick swirls of deep ruby red and teal green glass, twisted with air captured between them (like Orrefors Ariel vases), and cased in pure, clear crystal. It is a beautiful sight to behold, and it would make a wonderful gift - for yourself or for someone else who appreciates lasting quality and style.
This magnificent vase is approximately 7" in diameter, and it weighs nearly 12 pounds. It is in perfect condition - I can find no flaws to report, despite its age. The value of handmade vintage art glass has been increasing over the past few years, so I would expect a piece like this to hold its value or even increase. Most Lars Hellsten pieces are clear, machine-made, mass-produced bowls and figurines. They are not good investment choices because there are so many and they are all the same. This one is very different - I haven't seen another one like it - it tells a colorful, magical story in its glass.
