Bengt Edenfalk designed this charming vase in the 1960's. The square form is decorated with the much-loved title character from The Wonderful Adventures of Nils, a work of fiction by the Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf. It was originally published in two books, 1906 and 1907, and was first published in English as The Wonderful Adventures of Nils in 1907 and Further Adventures of Nils in 1911. As an interesting side-note, I've included the detail of a 1935 painting of Nils, by Sven Erixson, in my photos.
This special vase is 4.5" x 1.25" x 5", and it weighs 1.2 pounds. It is in very good condition, with only minor scratches, not unusual for its age. It is copper-wheel engraved, and signed on its base with the company name, Skruf.
The Skruf Glassworks was founded in 1897 and is still operating today. Bengt Edenfalk was the artistic director at Skruf from 1952 - 1978. Like so much of his work, this design is whimsical and timeless.
