Johansfors, Sweden, 1950s Optic Glass Bengt Orup Fish Vase, Perfect Gift

$59.00

Buying this sleek, stylish vase would be like getting an instant, maintenance-free fish bowl! Though the ribbed, optic glass looks quite contemporary, these vases date back to the 50's.

In 1952 Bengt Orup became artistic director of Johansfors glassworks in Småland where he was active until 1962, and also later from 1967 to 1973. In the middle period 1963-1966 he was associated with the newly-started glass cabin in Hyllinge outside Helsingborg.

Orup designed everyday glass, such as canisters, bowls, vases, and decanters. Several have become classics and are today sought after collector's items. Orup also designed magnificent unique glass pieces and sculptures. His career as a glass artist culminated when he was invited as a visiting professor at the Royal College of Art in London in 1968.

The vase is about 4" in diameter and weighs almost 2 pounds, and it is 8.75" tall. It is in excellent condition. The only things to note are a very small ping on the rim and the expected small scratches.
