Hadeland Norway Engraved Lead Crystal Vase, Girl With a Bird, 1952 design by Hermann Bongard

$229.00

This delightful art glass vase has a sandblasted design on the front showing two young children, reaching down to pet a cat. Manufactured in Norway by Hadeland Glassworks, and designed by Hermann Bongard (1921-1998), the vase is heavy, weighing 6 pounds. It measures 9.5 inches tall, 6 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. It is in very good used condition, with only a few light scratches. This is a charming decorative piece, sure to bring a smile to the face of the recipient. The signature on the base shows that this piece was made in 1952.

Hadeland Glassworks, founded in 1762, is the oldest industrial company in Norway that can claim continuous operation since its foundation. In later years, however, most of the production is done abroad. The glass works today represents an industry undergoing constant development, with an increased focus on cost-effective production, but also significant operations linked to the Visitor Center. There is still a development section at the site and this, together with the option for visiting artists to make their own glasswork, makes a thriving environment for innovative ideas. In May 2012, King Harald marked the 250th anniversary of Hadeland Glassworks.
