These charming, hand blown, glass vases from Holmegaard are part of a favorite Danish glass series, called Menuet, designed by Per Lütken in 1955. The hand blown, heart-shaped pieces were made in many sizes and at least four colors over the 30+ years that they were produced. This unmatched pair are "Akva" or aqua blue glass - very Scandinavian.
The larger vase in the pair is 14 cm wide and 10 cm tall, and it was made in 1959 (at least I think that's a 9). The smaller vase is 8 cm wide and 6.5 cm tall, and it was made in 1957. The condition of the large one is excellent; the small one has some scuffs, as shown in the photos. These pieces feel great in the hand, so a little wear is not a surprise, especially on a vase that's 65 years old!
The artist, Per Lütken (1916-1998), was the unsurpassed master of Danish glass design and one of Holmegaard's most advanced glass designers. He worked at the Holmegaard Glass Factory from 1942 until his death in 1998 and breathed life into more than 3,000 glass designs.
